Mayor Rob Burton Proposes Free Parking

As part of a business "stimulus initiative" Oakville mayor Rob Burton proposes free parking in Kerr Village and Downtown Oakville.

In an effort to help businesses recover from a rough winter Oakville mayor Rob Burton proposed the idea of a free parking policy in Kerr Village and Downtown Oakville at a Town Council meeting on April 28th. If passed, the policy could be implemented as early as June of 2014 and would be in place until the reconstruction of Lakeshore Road set to take place in 2016.

Mayor Burton has admitted parking to be an issue in the downtown and Kerr Village areas. He believes that if these two areas follow suit of Bronte, which already has free parking, it will improve business and benefit the community.

There are, however, other factors that must be considered before any final decision can be made. The free parking policy has raised concerns over how much it will cost the Town of Oakville, and ultimately, the taxpayers.

Town council will vote on the decision at an upcoming council meeting on May 26th.
